Solstice & Eclipse

"They sang Gospels and Upanishads

Psalms and Vedas praising God

Maybe Christ and Krishna are amused

When humans get a little bit confused

Singing Om Alleluia - Hare Hare Krishna

In Excelsis Deo - Rama Bolo Rama Bolo

Gloria Gloria - Govinda Gopala

Om Noel - Jay Siya Ram

Christmas in the Ashram."

-- Chris Rosser

Tonight the full moon (not pictured) will disappear into the shadows. Sometimes I wish I could do the same, if I can't burn so brightly as she burns tonight. It's the solstice, and the full moon is enormous and looking down with its flames almost out of control.   Walking my dogs tonight, humming a Chris Rosser tune I'm trying to learn on guitar.

What a proud light the full moon shows tonight.

Tense night in relationships, a night where I just really want to be alone.  But my daughter wants to get up and watch the lights go out.  I want to stay up and watch them come back on.   I probably could use my sleep.

When you're wound up tight, there are no gods, really.  They don't tell you what to think or how to feel, at least if they're telling you, you already knew how badly it felt to disobey, which is why the gods are in our images or we're in theirs, or something.

But still...

And it all muddles together while the lights go out.  When they come back on, sometimes you're just amazed.  Sometimes you're just tired, and cold, and damp with dew.

Somewhere between prayer and despair, wonder and death, things matter.  And the moon knows to burn brightly in the dark.  How does she know that?  Who taught her that?

Oh, Yes! And I think the thing that matters most is the ability to ask questions. The continual asking seems more important than having an answer. Good answers should only inspire better questions.
