God-Talk: "I Really Feel That..."

Otter When you grow up born again, you get used to peoples' feelings being presented as barometers for God. "I feel we should pray." "I feel sure that you'll be healed." "I just feel God is saying..."
Sometimes people have blindingly brilliant intuitions, sometimes almost supernatural (a word I don't believe in). Other times they're WTF-off the wall.
At some point, the averages even out.
Some people seem to nail it with alarming consistency, and against the probabilities. "Prophets" of some sort, maybe. Maybe God's authentic voice.
But God-talk among Christians can often be frighteningly presumptuous. Today I've heard four or five versions of "I just feel that God will..."
My mom just kind of nods. She believes. She has faith.
But I'm not sure she has faith that they're right.
I think she knows sometimes you have to have fidelity to the road set before you, not in your own sensitivity to the divine weather.
And if not your own, probably not in theirs.
