BP & The Smoking Gun

The New Orleans Times Picayune (which is becoming the nation's expert at crisis reporting) lays out the case against BP in sum.

BP cut corners, quite simply.

I think that a lot of people think of oil-drilling as punching a hole in the earth and then watching as oil just rises out of the hole.

But it's a lot more complicated than that.

You're releasing and changing all sorts of pressures that need to be kept carefully equalized.

In this case BP was anxious to cap off the well quickly rather than carefully, and this was a terrible mistake.

I've read that it's already cost BP $8 billion.

Newsflash: you can't buy what this is costing us here in Louisiana.
