When A Hoe Meets A Rake: Moments of Human Observation

In the Lawn & Garden section of Home Depot, I overheard today's great pickup exchange:

"So.  Ya like the St. Augustine?"

He meant the grass, of course, not the great doctor of the Catholic Church.

"Mm-hmm.  Yes, I do."

"Ya need somebody to come and seed your lawn?"

I did a double take to see if the female recipient of this utterance was picking up the double entendre.

She was, and evidently enjoying it.

However, no business resulted: "I prefer to seed it myself, thank you."

A ribald chuckle both ways.

This, people, is why we still need English Literature classes.

Okay, so then you're saying that when that tall cowboy at the Shell station stood there with his little regular pump in his hand and asked me if he could fill me up, and I responded, "No darlin', I only allow premium fuel in this tank", if I was well read, I would not have been surprised when the nozzle of his pump just sorta drooped as he climbed into his truck and drove away?
