Have you ever had a ferret run up the leg of your jeans while you've been driving at seventy miles per hour down the freeway?

Yeah.

Definitely.

It's difficult to say who was more distressed, me or the ferret, who had discovered that she couldn't back out as easily as she had gone in and had gotten wedged between thigh and denim, and had determined that the flesh was more pliant, and who was trying to excavate  her way out in that direction.

Well, actually it's easy to say who was most distressed.

It was the North Carolina State Police officer who pulled me over for weaving across lanes, and, leaning in at the window to ask for license and registration, had the shock of a lifetime.
