Going Up

I could do this if I were twenty years younger, thirty pounds lighter, and somebody else.

Amazing. And just the kind of thing (e.g., Krakauer’s Into Thin Air, and that 16-girl who tried to sail around the world) that reliably sparks a two-hour debate between me and my husband: are extreme sports and their ilk more foolhardy or inspiring? We’re both pretty conservative IRL with taking physical risks, but he tends to argue from a pragmatic position and I’m more of an idealist so it’s always an interesting conversation.

Hi, Susan. Yeah, this is some extreme stuff. See also "Man On A Wire." Drop that in your Netflix queue....

I miss climbing. I miss the lifestyle of people who live to climb. It's interesting to think of the things we trade for the life we hope we want.
