Tell me, tell me, tell me: which tale shall I tell my children? Should I lie to them because they are children and cannot know how profound my lies are? Or will I offer up the stories that acknowledge what my children already suspect... that life is good, yes, but also bloody, dangerous, and heartbreaking. Stories that suggest that their destiny is to grow up not only into mature human love, but ultimately through it into a profound, sacrificial, divine love. Stories that assume that, sooner or later, push will come to shove and you have to choose between saving your life and saving your soul.

Those who boycott Disney for having a gay pride parade should rather boycott Disney for human sacrifice, because they take the children's imagination and sacrifice it to an idol. And yes, I DO think it's that serious. The imagination matters more than anything. Without it, faith is not faith.

Film Review With Adult Beverage: UP & Primal Scream

While I think it's right that Carl should learn to live again, and to see his life with Ellie as a process of love that never dies rather than an achievement he has now accomplished, the Carl who loved Ellie is not so much transformed by that love as erased.  Now he has a new life. 

Maybe that's the way these things go.

Maybe we gain amnesia as well as dementia.

I hope not.
