A Second Preliminary Engagement With Emergentism: Questions

To what extent is the Emergentist dogma ("Every statement about God unravels itself") equivalent to the modernist Protestant dogma that humanity is incapable of approaching God?   Is it only a distortion of Protestantism to say that one "understands" God / salvation / right doctrine?  If so I think it's a distortion that was seeded in the very doctrines of Protestantism (and Catholicism).  But to what degree is Emergentism merely calling Protestantism back to take seriously its first doctrine, that a man is not God?  And an exclamation mark on the self-evident truth that reconciliation with God does not erase this distance between creator and creature?

Emergentism reflects exhaustion with modernist, absolute modes of thinking that apply only very uneasily to scripture.  So your question's reference to "inerrancy" and "literal interpretation" are sort of important here: it's not exactly that they "don't believe" in such things as they seek to articulate scripture without reference to those rather rigid categories.
