Facebook Theology Crashes Again

A friend writes, curious about my response to an atheist on Facebook who has made the following claims in a status update:

The Bible (and for that matter Christianity) depends upon 4 basic concepts: Creation, Original Sin, The Exodus and Mosaic Law, and the Resurrection of Jesus.  Science has debunked all 4 of these pillars, leaving the religious house of cards in a pile on the floor.

Speaking of Adam... Romans 5:12 and Original Sin

I got into an argument with a guy at a coffee shop (he was cleaning windows and started telling me how to think about God), and wanted to record a few reflections that came from that talk.  They have to do with a few themes of original sin, redemption, and the meaning of the New Testament that crop up here from time to time.

Let's Have A Funeral. Let's Live.

Maybe it’s not true that you have to be playful to learn, that you can tuck up your ethical self and force yourself to memorize the things you need to know.  But at the base of it, learning comes so much more easily where there is a desire, something you need and want.

The irony is that where there is desire, you’re almost unteachable.

Untangling Cliché: "God's Justice"

If all horror is "just" in that sense, and therefore you and I are incompetent to even talk about justice, what possible sense is there in saying "God is just"?

If we don't even know what justice is, it's meaningless to say "God is just."  Might as well say "God is prfmgnsuths."  We have just as much (or little) understanding of what we mean.

Bourne Again: Choice, Original Sin, Redemption, and How To Grow A Soul

Bourne's often misunderstood in the reviews as a guy who's "lost part of his soul." But I think rather that he's discovering how difficult it is to have one in the first place. To change requires that we forget what we were, and embrace the breathtaking choice to be something else for a change. That's how you grow a soul.
